Final Day in Aboyne
Can anyone tell me if they have had four days of temperatures over 20 degrees in a Scottish final before? It really was amazing how the weather was so kind to us over the weekend.
Midlothian had a good day today with some really exciting matches against Dunbartonshire and Argyll and a nail biting finish on the 18th that meant a win or lose either way for the team .
In the morning we halved the foursomes with Kate and Karen Marshall winning easily then Alison and Caroline making a great recovery on the back nine to half the match on the 18th. Wendy and Hannah fought really hard but just missed out losing the game on the 17th.
The afternoon temperatures soared again and so did the matches. Wendy v Lorraine Campbell and Alison v Laura McGeachy had really good wins to finish their games on the 12th and 13th. Brilliant rounds. Kate fought back from 2 down at the turn against Jillian Farrell to win on the 17th. Some great putting clinched that match. Karen had a tough match against Fiona Rattray and despite being 2 up at the 14th finally lost to her on the 17th. Louise Fraser playing Anne Laing was always either always as or one down until the back nine when a her opponent hit some brilliant shots to finish it on the 15th. That meant we had 41/2 points and needed a half to win the match. Karen Ferguson was our last woman standing playing Claire Hargan and took it to the wire. She was 2 down at the 14 then Claire hit her drive into the small loch and so to 1 down. She then won the 16th and brought it back to as. The halved the 17th , both sinking great putts and so to the 18th. Karen drove to the front edge of the green and Claire to the right. Claire chipped on but still left a reasonable length putt and Karen putted to leave herself a tricky 6ft downhill putt. Claire putted first and just missed it and so all eyes were on Karen. She kept her cool and sunk the putt for a win and a match win with 51/2 to 31/2. Well done Karen . Great game point.
Huge thanks to the team who have been so committed and lovely to work with over the last couple of years. Sorry we didn't quite make it but we were happy for Dumfriesshire who hadn't won the trophy before. Well done to them.
A big thanks also to Jacky, Tracy and Ruth for their help throughout the weekend and I am sure they appreciated the weather walking round watching the matches and keeping me up to date with the scoring.
What would we do though without our caddies. We are so grateful for your continuing support at these events . It really means a lot to us all. They also regaled us with their stories of their hotel which became known as faulty towers!
Thanks to all at Scottish golf for their support of this event that means so much to the low handicap golfers in ladies golf in Scotland. We are pleased to say they will be supporting the finals again next year though no venue has been agreed as yet.
And finally a huge thanks to all the staff and volunteers at Aboyne golf club who helped to make us feel so welcome and who had the course in beautiful condition. I would certainly recommend the course and area to anyone for a stay and a game.

Second day at Aboyne
Its amazing to believe that we have had playing in shirt sleeves weather for 3 days so far in the North of Scotland. The morning started off really chilly with a lot of dew on the course which soon dissipated in the glorious sunshine that lasted all day.
There were some amazing matches today but those Dumfriesshire girls just kept coming back. for instance in Alison's match on the 17th she hit the most amazing drive about 50yds past her opponent who was perched on the edge of the bunker. Thinking she was in with a chance one minute but then Mirren hits this beautiful shot to the green about 10ins from the pin. That really summed up a lot of the day so sadly we lost the match 3 -6.
These were the pairings in the morning matches. Kate and Wendy above, Hannah and Karen Marshall on the left and Louise and Karen on the right.
Dumbartonshire and Argyle are our opponents for tomorrow and we are second off the tee tomorrow approx 9.50.

First Day at Aboyne
It started of as a dull rather wet morning but cleared up as the day went on to some nice sunshine in the afternoon.
Despite the girls very best efforts against Aberdeenshire and winning 3/1 in the morning we lost overall by 31/2 to 51/2.
Louise Fraser and Karen Ferguson followed with good win at the 14th.
Karen Marshall and Wendy Nicholson kept fighting but eventually lost 3/1.
The afternoon turned into some tough nail biting matches as Aberdeen slowly edged ahead. Karen Ferguson gave us our only win of the afternoon with some inspired golf and Hannah fought to the very end to half her match.
Everyone was feeling a bit despondent at the end of the day but we are Midlothian and we do not give up so look out Dumfriesshire because we will come out fighting tomorrow.

Junior Championship at Baberton
In the end there were 24 juniors playing in the Championship which is fantastic. It was a pretty windy afternoon and therefore pretty testing conditions for them.
Our President Tracy Laughland saw them all off with quite a large group watching. It was captains day at the club so there were a lot of spectators. Its nerve racking enough teeing off but the juniors all coped well with the audience.
There were some really good scores considering the weather and Emma Morrison in her last year as a junior won with a scratch 80 to become our new junior champion.
With an amazing score of 67 net Ella Marshall won the handicap trophy in her first time playing in the event. What a lovely emotional moment when she was presented with the trophy by her Grandma Joan.

Fundraiser for Caddies
Dear Team Captains
As you know, we ran a fund raiser event for MCLGA at Baberton GC on Sat 3rd Sept. The funds were raised to support the travel and accommodation costs of the county team's caddies at the County Finals in Aboyne and beyond!
So far we have raised just over £2600 and hope that the total will rise towards £2800 as we sell off the remaining MCLGA tees at the County Autumn meeting and AGM.
We cannot thank everyone enough for their kindness and generosity in supporting this event but here goes.
• Firstly, a huge thank you to Baberton GC who generously gave us courtesy of the course.
• To Lexus, our main sponsor, we owe a big thanks for their prizes, donation and for printing off the competition cards.
• Karen and I owe a huge debt of gratitude to Keith Nicholson (no relation) for his help throughout the planning and organising phases as well as on the day.
• Lisa Kilpatrick and Maureen McLeod at MCLGA for handling all of the money and entry forms.
• The many contributors to the competition and raffle prizes (see lists attached for team and raffle prizes). Through their generosity we were able to give out 6 team prizes and 2 nearest the pin prizes as well as an amazing 85 raffle prizes!
• Our helpers on the day who manned the registration desk: Alison McBride; Gail Joughin; Helen Ross; Jacky Burnett; Maggie McPherson; Pamela Williamson; and Tracy Laughland.
• The catering, bar and green staff at Baberton for helping to create a great day out for all of us.
• And all of you and your teams for coming along, supporting the event and making the day a great success.
Some of you already have your prizes, for those that don't, where possible, the team and raffle prizes will be transported to your clubs. Baberton members should be able to collect their prizes from the pro shop from Thursday this week.
There were 3 items of property found on the course that most likely belong to a competitor. A GPS device, sun glasses and a distinctive large ball marker. If you would like to reclaim one, the GPS and glasses were handed in to Baberton at the bar and the marker is with Zandra.
Thank you all so very much for your support,
Karen & Wendy
