5 a-side round up

Harburn are victorious and give it thumbs up for Division 1......

Harburn are previous winners of the Division 2 Thomson Trophy in 1993, 2002 and 2007. Competing for many years, Harburn have for the first time won the Division 1 MacFarlane Trophy and they will proudly display it in Harburn’s Trophy cabinet. Well done Team Harburn. Runners up to Harburn were closely fought Craigmillar Park GC. Teams relegated to division 2 will be Dalmahoy and Broomieknowe.

Division 2 winners of the Thomson Trophy was Turnhouse GC. A close battle to the end as Ravelston GC were hot on their heels who finished runners up with the same match points but lost out by 3.5 game points.

Junior Champion of Champions

Hannah Darling wins again!

Today at the Dukes, St Andrews added another Scottish trophy to give her a hat trick of wins She scored a 69 over the par 71 course to win by two shots from Jasmine Mackintosh, Hazlehead GC, Aberdeen.  Hannah only recorded one bogey in her game with 14 pars and 3 birdies.

Her trio of major wins are the Scottish Girls Amateur Championship, the Scottish U14 Girls Championship and the Junior Champion of Champions.

This year Hannah has represented Scotland in Oslo at the European Junior Masters and joined other young hopefuls at the hand over for the Solheim Cup in Iowa, USA.  She is hoping to get a place in the European Team at the Junior Solheim Cup at Gleneagles 2019.

Scottish County Finals

My apologies for the lack of updates for Day 2 and Day3.  The hotel we were staying at was having problems with wifi and there was little or no service at all.  I managed on Day 1 only because I had time at the golf course but that wasn't the case on the other two days.  I hope you managed to follow us on Scottish Golf website (for future use - Scottish Golf/Championship/ Women's County Finals).

Hopefully by now you will know that we were second, just losing out to Renfrewshire on count back.  The players were magnificent throughout the event - determined, supportive of each other, competitive - playing great golf.  They coped with extremely difficult greens that were reminiscent of the Ochil Hills on the horizon and fairways that had suffered from the third wettest summer since records began a hundred years ago.

Gabrielle MacDonald & Alison McBride
It was roller coaster of a tournament
Day 1:  We only managed a half in the foursomes against Renfrewshire so went into the afternoon on the back foot.  The players were great taking four points in the singles to finish with a draw.  Perth & Kinross and Dumfriesshire also had a draw to leave us in the same position as before the event started!
Day 2:  The match against Dumfriesshire started well with three wins in the morning.  Going into the singles confidently it was real nail biter to finish with only 2 wins.  It was enough to give us two points for a win but left us half a point behind Renfrewshire who beat P & K 5.5 - 3.5.

Day 3:  We took the edge from the morning games with two wins and went into the afternoon just looking for three wins from six games or 3 points.  Our players played hard never giving up, competing very hard against Perth and Kinross to take three wins.  We fought hard but just couldn't get the final one point that would give us victory.  I did hope Dumfries might help us when their last three games against Renfrewshire were all square, all square and up - only for them to lose game 4 and 5!

To be second at the County Finals is a good result, particularly to be so close, and all credit to the players and officials involved in the event.  Thanks to Louise Fraser and Linda Wemyss for sharing with me  - a great team -  and President Norma for your continuous support.

Scottish County Finals

 15th  - 17th September, Glenbervie Golf Club.

The tournament started today with Dumfriesshire against Perth & Kinross and us against Renfrewshire.  The format is match play with the morning matches being three foursomes and the afternoon six singles.
Today was a bright, clear, sunny day and the views, across to the Ochil Hills, from the first tee were stunning.  Gabrielle MacDonald and Alison McBride led off against Megan Briggs and Carol Whyte, followed by Karen Marshall and Jennifer Bryans against Jennifer Rankine and Donna Jackson with the third match being Louise Fraser and Rachael Livingstone taking on Gillian Kyle and Liz Stewart.  Unfortunately the first and second pairs lost whilst Louise and Rachael secured a half to ensure we  went into lunch with a half point on the board.
Consequently

Karen Ferguson-Snedden  v      Megan Briggs        lost 3/1
Gabrielle MacDonald        v      Gillian Kyle           won 4/3
Hannah Darling                 v      Jennifer Rankine    won 1up
Alison McBride                 v      Donna Jackson       won 5/4
Karen Marshall                  v      Denise Cowan        won 4/3
Louise Fraser                     v      Carol Whyte           lost 2/1

Midlothian 4.5 - Renfrewshire 4.5

Special mentions for Karen Ferguson-Snedden for taking Megan to the 17th and for Hannah for coming back from two down to win on the 18th.

Dumfriesshire drew with Perth & Kinross so all teams start with equal points tomorrow.

Midlothian play Dumfriesshire tomorrow with the first tee time at 0900.  Come and support us.
