East Lothian were worthy winners of this year's Cuthbertson Cup which was hosted by Midlothian at Broomieknowe Golf Club yesterday.
On a cold and windy day Midlothian were drawn against East Lothian in the morning matches. Our team of Emily Dalgetty, Emma Morrison, Kirsty Burgess and Julia Smith faired well against the strong East Lothian challenge in the first half. All girls played well but were overcome in the back nine by the stronger side finally losing all 4 ties.
Emily Dalgetty led the challenge against North Berwick's Clara Young and went into an early lead. However Clara went ahead in the second half and eventually won on the 18th green.
Emma Morrison and Julia Smith made their first Cuthbertson Cup appearance and played excellent golf. Special mention to Julia, brought in to play at the last minute to replace Eilidh Crawford who was unwell. She played exceptionally well against her significantly lower handicapped opponent eventually losing on the 16th.
In the other morning tie Stirling and Clackmannanshire beat Fife 4 - 0.
The final between Stirling and Clackmannanshire and East Lothian was won by East Lothian 4 - 0.
Midlothian beat Fife in the foursomes play off for 3rd place.
Congratulations to the winners and to Clara Young for her hole in one at the 11th in the final.
Well done to all competitors not only for their impeccable on course behaviour but for the quality of golf in challenging conditions and for the friendly spirit in which all matches were played.
Thanks to all those who helped and supported the day and to Sue Tait, Shirley Porter and everyone at Broomieknowe for their hospitality.
