Following the Scottish Girls' Championship at Lanark this week, the SLGA has announced the teams to represent Scotland in the Girls' Home International Matches and the Girls' British Open Amateur Championship. Rachael Watton (Mortonhall) has been chosen as one of the team of 8 for the Girls' Home International Matches being held at Fairhaven Golf Club in Lancashire from the 4th-6th August and also to play and Captain the team of 3 whose scores will count for Scotland in the International Team Event at the Girls' British Open Amateur Championship being held at West Lancashire Golf Club from 10th-14th August. Gabrielle Macdonald (Craigielaw) was named as one of the reserves for the Girls' Home Internationals, and the team will be managed by Karen Marshall (Baberton).
The Scotland Team to take part in the European Senior Ladies' Team Championship at Dun Laoghaire Golf Club in Dublin from the 1st-4th September has also been announced. To be Captained by Pam Williamson (Baberton), the team will include Fiona de Vries (St Rule) and Fiona Hunter (Baberton) with Noreen Fenton (Dunbar) as 1st reserve.

Juniors at the Princes Course
This month 8 enthusiastic juniors took part in the mothly 9-hole competition at the Princes Course. On a lovely day, although slightly windy, Emma Morrison continued her good form playing to her handicap, while Heather Laing was 1 over her handicap. In the non-handicap section, Julia Smith had another good score as did Erin Hardy who hit a tremendous drive at the 9th hole straight through the green. Carys Hardy, struggling with a new grip, came in third and when she got her new grip right, struck the ball exceptionally well. Joanna Lamb had a fabulous 4 at the 4th hole and great shots were hit by both Lisa MacPherson and Cara McCorquodale.
Well done girls and thanks again to all the helpers.

Midlothian Girls do well in Lanark
It was the turn of the juniors this week to keep the MCLGA flag flying in the Scottish Girls' (Close) Amateur Championship being held at Lanark Golf Club, and what a great effort they made! Rachael Watton, returning from a good display in the European Girls' Championships at Kokkola Golf Club in Finland, led the way, winning the Stroke Play Championship. Lying 3rd equal after the morning round, 2 behind the leader and having shot a respectable 3 over par 77, Rachael continued to play well in the afternoon, adding a 2 over par 76 to her score and claiming the title of Scottish Girls' Stroke Play Champion for 2009 by 3 shots. Qualifying for the match play stage in pole position, she was joined by Gabrielle Macdonald and Gillian Simpson, while another MCLGA member, Kate McIntosh qualified for the Ansley Reid Consolation Salver.
A great contest for the title of Scottish Girls' Match Play Champion enused. Gillian lost out on the first round by 3&2 while Gabrielle was norrowly beaten on the final green in the second round. Rachael kept going to the semi-finals where her 3 birdies were not quite enough to see off the eventual overall winner. Having won a couple of very tight tussles on the way, one against European Girls' Championship team mate, Lesley Atkins (Minto), she finally succumbed on the 18th hole.
In the Consolation Salver, Kate McIntosh, having qualified in last place, turned up the heat and played some superb golf, despatching the leading plate qualifier in the first round and recording a 2-over par score in the second round. She progressed through to the final where she met and took the better of the second seed to win the Ansley Reid Consolation Salver by 1 hole.
Many congratulations to all of the girls who took part and especially to Rachael Watton in winning the Stroke Play and Kate McIntosh in winning the Consolation Salver.
The girls take off to Nairn Dunbar next week to play in the Scottish Ladies' Junior Open Stroke Play Championship. Good luck to the eight MCLGA members who are taking part: Rachael Archibald (Merchants), Gabrielle Macdonald (Craigielaw), Kate McIntosh, Hannah Scott (both Broomieknowe), Gillian Simpson, Kirsty Simpson (both Murrayfield), Jane Turner (Craigielaw) and Rachael Watton (Mortonhall).

Ricoh Women's British Open
Congratulations to Jane Turner (Craigielaw) who has successfully reached the final qualifying stage for the Ricoh Women's British Open which is being held at Royal Lytham & St Anne's from 30th July - 2nd August. Jane played in the pre-qualifying event at The Berkshire Golf Club on Monday and carded a level par round of 72 (with 3 bogeys, a birdie and an eagle) to finish in a tie for 6th place. She now joins Midlothian professional Vikki Laing for the final qualifier which is being held at Fairhaven Golf Club, Lancashire on Monday 27th July and from which the top 20 will qualify for the Open. Good luck to Jane and Vikki.

Scottish Girls' (Close) Amateur Championship
The Scottish Girls' (Close) Amateur Championship takes place this week at Lanark Golf Club, with the Stroke-Play Championship being held tomorrow (Tuesday 14th July) and the Match-Play Championship for those qualifying from tomorrow's rounds, being held from Wednesday 15th - Friday 17th July. Amongst the 74 entrants, 7 are MCLGA members and we wish Cara Easton (Dalmahoy), Gabrielle Macdonald (Craigielaw), Kate McIntosh, Hannah Scott (both Broomieknowe), Gillian Simpson, Kirsty Simpson (both Murrayfield) and Rachael Watton (Mortonhall) good golfing over the next few days.

MCLGA members shine in Pitlochry
Congratulations to Louise Fraser (Kingsknowe) who led the qualifiers in the Highland Women's Open at Pitlochry by 1 shot after scoring 154 over the 2 qualifying rounds. Louise was joined in the match play stages by Rita Dee (Kingsknowe) and Sal Shepherd (Craigmillar Park). Sal played well in the match play, losing in the semi-finals by 2&1 to eventual, overall winner Robina Gilbertson (Prestwick St Nicholas).
Mary Davidson (Kingsknowe) was 2nd in the silver handicap category with a 143, 4 shots behind the leader and was joined in the match play stages by Alison MacDonald (Dalmahoy), Letty Mackinnon (Kingsknowe) and Morag Wardrop (Niddry Castle). Many congratulations to Letty who, having made the final, found herself 5 down at the turn to 15-year-old Chloe Stokes from Driffield and managed to turn the game around and take the title on the 18th hole.
