She was beaten 2&1 this afternoon by Katie McGarva of Troon Ladies (pictured above with Emily) in a very tight match, but played great golf and can be very proud of the way she performed. Emily, who turned 14 just this week, has now reduced her handicap to 11. Happy birthday Emily and well done!

Summer Meeting is Postponed!

Unfortunately due to the freak storm that hit us yesterday, the Summer Meeting has had to be postponed. Craigmillar Park was hit very badly with the burn backing up and spilling over onto the course. Although it is now draining away, it has left a lot of debris on the course, with paths being washed away on to greens and every bunker on the course in a total mess. It will just not be possible to get the course into a satisfactory condition by Monday morning, and more rain is forecast. We apologise for any inconvenience this will cause. We do intend to re-arrange the competition and hope to publish the new date in the next few days - so please keep an eye on this website and/or check with your Midlothian rep. Don't you just love summer!

Scotland Team for Vets Jamboree

Congratulations to Karen Ballantyne (Craigmillar Park) who has been named in the Scottish Vets team for the Jamboree at Wellingborough Golf Club 10-12 August.

Kate is East of Scotland Girls Champion 2011

Congratulations to Kate McIntosh (Broomieknowe) who became East of Scotland Girls Champion at Kirkcaldy Golf Club today. On the way to the final Kate beat Broomieknowe team mate Hannah Scott in the quarter finals and Sophie Maguire (St Regulus ) in the semi finals, to set up an all Midlothian final with Gabrielle Macdonald (Craigielaw). It was a very entertaining and close final, played in great spirit between two good friends and County team mates.

However Kate decided to up the entertainment factor on the 4th tee. She hit a great drive, splitting the fairway but unfortunately also her driver, as the club head flew off to the left (bit of a hook really) and into some long grass. After some searching, Kate and her ex-driver were reunited.

Kate eventually won the match on the 17th . Congratulations to both of you on a great final.

Noreen is Scottish Senior Ladies' Match Play Champion

Noreen Fenton (Dunbar) won the Scottish Senior Ladies' Match Play Championship at Portpatrick Dunskey Golf Club today. Noreen was disappointed on Tuesday to finish as runner up in the Stroke Play Championship, being pipped at the post by just 1 shot. But she more than made up for it today with a fantastic display of golf. On the way to the final she beat Lorna Bennett (Ladybank) on the 19th, May Hughes (Lanark) 1 up and Janice Paterson (Drumpellier) 3&2 to meet Heather Anderson (Blairgowrie).

It was a brilliant final with never more than one hole in it, keeping the spectators on tender hooks the whole way. Heather birdied the 1st, Noreen won the 2nd with a par and Heather went back to one up with a par at the 4th. Noreen squared the match once again with a birdie 3 on the 365 yard 5th hole and then took the lead for the first time at the 8th hole with a par four. Heather once again squared the match with a birdie 2 at the tricky par three 11th hole.

The next four holes were halved before Noreen once again took the upper hand. She put her approach shot at the par four 16th hole to 6 feet and sunk the putt to go one up. She held her nerve on the final two holes to win by one hole. Fantastic Noreen - well done!!! A well deserved victory!
