Championship Qualifier at Baberton on 28th April

How can the weather be so unkind to all the golfers taking part in our Championship qualifying competition today. From last week playing in short sleeves to today with several layers on and still being cold it was like being transported back to winter.

Well done to all those taking part and some of the great scores achieved. The top qualifier was Karen Marshall with a 78 and then an amazing 69 Total 147.

2nd and third were Alison McBride and Kate MacIntosh with 150.

CSS for first round was 74 and second round 75

The knock out stage takes place at Baberton on Friday and then Sunday. commencing at 09.00.

Great results for our Midlothian girls at Ratho on Sunday.

 

Caitlin Turner ( Baberton) won the best overall  net with a 67.

 

 Megan Linton ( Craigmillar Park) won the Under 16 prize with a net 69 

 

 Katie Darling (Ravelston) won the u18 prize with a net 71.

Midlothian Spring Meeting

CSS 74 Reduction only for home and away players.


Over a hundred members played in our Spring meeting at Broomieknowe on a lovely morning with the wind and showers increasing as the day went on. Our thanks to Broomieknowe for making us feel so welcome. The coarse was in good condition for the time of year.


The B Championship qualifiers will be announced when we have ensured that the qualifiers can all play at Baberton on the 1st May.

Cuthbertson Cup

As you can see from the photograph it was a miserable cold start to the Cuthbertson Cup at Glenbervie but the girls were all excited and raring to go. We had to substitute Alexandra Massey for Anna as she was poorly and we are so grateful to Megan for stepping in as our reserve at the last minute.

Despite the morning being mainly wet and cold the girls played some great golf but were sadly beaten yet again by East Lothian 3 games to 1. Emma played a great match against Sophie Bain winning 4 and 3.Eilidh had a great start against Joanna Free being 2 up at the third but eventually was beaten by a very long hitting Sophie. Alexandra and Katie both did really well against their opponents for their debut in the Cuthbertson Cup.

Fife beat Stirling and Clackmannan 3 and 1 which left us playing Stilrling in the doubles in the afternoon.

THe afternoon saw the wind getting up which was great while the sun was out but being April we had of course April hail showers!

Eilidh and Emma played their arch rivals Jennifer Allan and Andrea Walker. They both played magnificently and won their match on the 14th. It was great to see their teamsmanship and accuracy into the greens.

Alexandra ands Katie were really quite despondent on the 9th as they were 4 down at this stage.  A few discreet words in their ears from Sharon to speed up as they were losing ground worked wonders and by the 14th they were back to one down. They then won the 15th and 16th. Now one up they halved the 17th and was one of the very few matches going up the 18th. It was all down to the putting and we had a good half resulting in a win for us.

Well done to the team . You all did really well and we thank you all for your participation in such a professional manner. We are proud of you.

Unfortunately the meal afterwards was very disappointing as the club had lost their caterer. Not the best end to a great day.

Cuthbertson Cup

The Junior Cuthbertson Cup is being played at Glenbervie on Sunday. This is the competition that shows our best players in competition with Stirling and Clackmanenshire, Fife and East.


Tee off times start from 09.30 in the morning and 2.15 in the afternoon.

Carnoustie Callenge

Very well done to one of our young juniors in getting 1st handicap in the recent Carnoustie Challenge. The first day was so windy so only the first fourteen holes were counted. Carys Irvine had completed the 18 with 2 birdies and a par in the last four holes!

Plese note I have been advised by the BofS that cheques for the Tri-Am should not include the words "Tri-Am" in the "Pay" line, i.e. they should just state "MCLGA" only.

Junior Spring Meeting

What a wonderful day at Liberton for the Junior Spring meeting which makes a real change from the rain and snow over the last few years. Whether it was the sunshine or the girls raring to go at the start of the season I am not sure but we had some great scoring. This was not only from the handicap players but also from the non handicap with one of the younger members, Nina Ramsay, putting two holes in one in the putting competition.
